Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke and Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger today designated April 14, 2014 as "Dale Mabee Day" in honor of outgoing planning commission chair Dale Mabee.

After 20 years serving on the planning commission in one fashion or another, Mabee is leaving the board to spend time with his family and focus on his business in developing.

"Thank you and congratulations," said Coppinger to Mabee at the start of the meeting. "I'm so appreciative for his friendship and what he's done."

"Development is controversial," said Berke. "You have a lot of differences to balance when development comes up."

Mabee praised the planning staff for their work during his time on the board and as chair.

"They have a very difficult job," he said.

Ethan Collier, another local developer, is taking over the chairmanship, and was presented by the mayors.
