SAVANNAH, Ga. - A Savannah woman has pleaded guilty in the death of her newborn son, whose body was found in the back of a garbage truck.
Anitra Hicks entered the plea today to charges of voluntary manslaughter and concealing the death of another. She was sentenced to 20 years on the manslaughter charge and 10 years on the concealment charge. She was ordered to serve 15 years in prison and 15 years on probation.
Hicks was an 18-year-old high school student when the body of her newborn son was discovered by a garbage truck driver in December 2011. Her attorney, Richard Darden, said she had the baby while on the toilet, panicked and made a bad decision.
