Pulitzer-winning composer coming to UT Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - A Pulitzer Prize winning composer who is also an environmental activist is coming to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, as part of the school's Earth Day celebration.

John Luther Adams won the Pulitzer for music last week for his orchestral work "Become Ocean."

On Monday, Adams will spend the afternoon working with music students. In the evening, he will deliver a lecture about how his compositions relate to his environmental activism. Both the rehearsal and lecture are free and open to the public.

The visit will be followed by a Tuesday performance of Adams' "Inuksuit" for nine to 99 percussionists. The performance by the UT Percussion Ensemble and guests takes place at Ijams Nature Center. Admission is $20 per car and $10 per bike.
