Despite facing a Republican primary challenger, U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander was endorsed for re-election by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce today in Chattanooga as it cited his work to spur economic growth and new jobs.

Moore Hallmark, the U.S. Chamber's executive director for the Southeast region, said Alexander would continue to fight Obama administration policies which "stop businesses from expanding."

Hallmark made the announcement at LJT Tennessee, a steel distribution facility at Centre South Riverport, saying that Alexander has a 93 percent record of voting with Chamber positions. Hallmark termed Alexander "the best choice."

The Tennessee Republican is facing a primary race from state Rep. Joe Carr, of Lascassas.

Alexander said he and the Chamber share a common goal of jumpstarting the slow economy "by liberating the free enterprise system."
