Mobile man charged in shooting outside his home

MOBILE, Ala. - A Mobile man who told police he shot an intruder trying to break into his home has been charged with murder.

WKRG-TV reports police charged homeowner Joseph Booth on Monday, saying he knew the man shot dead outside Booth's house over the weekend.

Police say 20-year-old Antonio Crawford was shot early Sunday and Booth told officers the victim was trying to break into his house. Police say they now believe Crawford was shot over a drug debt and they say Booth tampered with evidence at the scene to mislead investigators.

Booth was jailed in Mobile County. It was not immediately known if Booth had an attorney to represent him.
