Athens, Ala., police say teenager held suspect until they arrived after being stabbed in neck

ATHENS, Ala. - Athens police say a teenager who got stabbed in the neck managed to pin down his suspected assailant until police arrived to help.

Al.com reports James Rodney Wilson was charged Friday night with second-degree assault. The 18-year-old victim was taken to Athens Limestone Hospital after being stabbed with a kitchen knife, but his condition was unknown Saturday.

Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson says police found the teenager on top of Wilson, holding the man down, when they arrived to a home where a stabbing had been reported. Witnesses told police the teenager confronted Wilson after the man insulted his mother, and that Wilson eventually hugged the teenager and stabbed him the neck.

It was not immediately known if Wilson had an attorney.
