Grundy County voters picked a new sheriff and county mayor, and re-elected the incumbent Road Superintendent over a strong showing by a write-in candidate, according to unofficial results.
The new sheriff is Republican Clint Shrum, who defeated independent candidate Russell Baker. 1,993 votes to 1,744, results show.
The new county mayor is former county commissioner Michael Brady, a Democrat who defeated Republican Aubrey Lee Harper 2,087 votes to 1,621.
Incumbent Democrat Road Superintendent Dewayne "Turkey" Hargis won over a strong write-in showing by Johnny Ray Fults, 1,689 to 1,665.
There were 1,755 write-in votes total, according to Administrator of Elections Donna Basham. Basham said 90 of the write-in votes named different people and even, "Daffy Duck" as the candidate, creating some confusion for voters and candidates.
