Monroe County jail escapee 'tired of running,' surrenders to Polk County authorities

A Monroe County jail escapee surrendered to authorities in Polk County on Tuesday, telling officials he was "tired of running," officials said.

According to a Monroe County Sheriff's Office news release, escapee Tony Joe "T.J." Carroll contacted the U.S. Marshals Service and said he was "tired of running and that everywhere he went, law enforcement was there or had just been there and that he wanted to turn himself in."

Polk County Sheriff's deputies arrested him and he was returned to the Monroe County Jail.
