KNOXVILLE - The suspense is over.

And it ended as expected.

Tennessee football coach Butch Jones named senior Justin Worley the Volunteers' starting quarterback at his media day news conference on Thursday afternoon.

Worley won the job last year and started seven games, including Tennessee's upset of South Carolina and near-upset of Georgia, and beat out sophomores Nathan Peterman and Josh Dobbs after recovering from a thumb injury that ended his 2013 season in October.

"He's earned the right," Jones said.

Jones said the battle for the No. 2 job between Peterman and Dobbs is "ongoing."

Tennessee opens the season Aug. 31 against Utah State at Neyland Stadium.
