Breakdown at a wastewater pumping station to blame for a fish kill on South Chickamauga Creek

A breakdown at a wastewater pumping station is to blame for a fish kill on South Chickamauga Creek, a city government news release says.

The email from Alice Cannella said the city's public works department was alerted about 6:30 p.m. Friday of dead fish in a section of the creek. She said the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency worked with public works to discover the cause.

The email did not say where the pump station is located, but said the mechanical failure has been corrected and there is no impact on local residents.
