Effort by Chattanooga City Councilman Yusuf Hakeem to reform IDB dies

An effort by City Councilman Yusuf Hakeem to reform the the city's Industrial Development Board died on the floor during an agenda session today.

Hakeem made a motion during the meeting to add an agenda item to this evening's meeting that would request that the IDB expands its membership to nine, giving each councilperson an appointment.

But when the vote was taken, Hakeem didn't have the support.

Council members Hakeem, Chairman Chip Henderson, Ken Smith and Larry Grohn voted in favor of the motion.

Members Jerry Mitchell, Russell Gilbert, Moses Freeman and Chris Anderson voted against it.

Council member Carol Berz was not present.

Henderson said the motion needed five votes to succeed.
