East Ridge collects signatures for wine vote

Arkansas-Ole Miss Live Blog

The required number of valid signatures has been collected in East Ridge to put the wine referendum on the November ballot.

According to a news release from Red White and Food, the Hamilton County Election Commission notified East Ridge that they, along with Lakesite and Red Bank, will officially offer residents the ability to vote for the sale of wine in retail food stores on Nov. 4.

Aug. 21 is the deadline to submit petitions for a Nov. 4 wine referendum. Chattanooga, Collegedale, Lookout Mountain, Signal Mountain, Soddy-Daisy, Walden and the unincorporated area of Hamilton County currently lack the number of signatures needed in order to secure the referendum on the ballot, according to the release.

To put the wine referendum on the ballot, petitions in eligible municipalities must submit a petition to local election commissions with at least as many signatures as would equal 10 percent of their residents who voted in the last gubernatorial election.
