Jim Tracy will not contest loss to Scott DesJarlais

State Sen. Jim Tracy has decided not to contest his loss to 4th Congressional District U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais in the Republican Primary.

In Tracy's statement Monday, Tracy said while he believed there were voters who were denied their right to vote in some of the 16 counties of the district, a challenge to the Aug. 7 election would not be in the best interest of the conservative cause, his family and friends or others.

In his separate statement, DesJarlais said, "I want to thank the people of Tennessee's Fourth Congressional District for once again putting their faith in my ability to serve them; I promise I will never take that trust for granted."

He said he is "glad we can now come together as Republicans and start focusing on the general election in November."

Tracy lost to DesJarlais by 38 votes.
