A Dalton, Ga., woman told police that her husband threw her to the ground Monday night, pointed a shotgun at her head and threatened to kill her.
Then he fired.
But, the woman told police, Brian Keith Paige, of Meadowlark Drive, tilted the .410 shotgun toward the kitchen ceiling before pulling the trigger.
On Tuesday morning, Paige, 38, sat in the Whitfield County Jail facing charges of reckless conduct, battery and aggravated assault with a gun. The sheriff's office also charged him with making terroristic threats.
According to an incident report, Paige told deputies he and his wife got into an argument after she woke him up by throwing a bag of clothes on top of him. He said that she accused him of sleeping around.
His wife told investigators that Paige pushed her to the ground. That's when he allegedly said he was going to kill her and retrieved his shotgun. She said he pointed it at her head, then changed his mind for some reason.
Paige admitted to investigators that he fired a round at the ceiling, according to the incident report.
His wife then called her 63-year-old mother and told her what happened. The mother told deputies she came to the house and Paige met her at the door. She said he pointed the gun at her, too.
"Get the [expletive] out of my house," Paige told her, according to the incident report.
Eventually, Paige's wife left with her mother, and they called the sheriff's office. The deputy who responded found several scratches on Paige's wife's arms.
Paige remained in jail without a bond Tuesday afternoon.
