Chattanooga's Memorial Health Care System will receive funding through the National Cancer Institute to conduct multi-site cancer clinical trials and cancer care delivery research.

Memorial is a member of the Catholic Health Initiatives Institute for Research and Innovation's Oncology Research Alliance, which was among the organizations awarded a five-year grant as a part of the $93 million national program.

The total amount coming to Memorial was not immediately disclosed.

The money, provided over five years, will fund clinical trials, and will expand access to new treatments for patients in the Chattanooga area, said Kathy Dittmar, service line administrator for oncology and cancer center programs at Memorial Health Care System, in a news release.

"It gives patients access to state-of-the-art clinical trials allows patients greater choice for their health care needs," Dittmar.
