Blood Assurance is in critical need of O-negative blood, according to news release.
Currently, Level 1 trauma centers are using 20 percent more O-negative blood than this time last year, and the demand for this blood type has surpassed donations by 18 percent in the past two months, according to the release from spokeswoman Bonnie Phillips.
More than 440 blood donors are needed each day to meet the demand of the 70 healthcare facilities that Blood Assurance supplies, according to the
One donation can save three lives, and to be eligible to donate you must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with parental consent; weigh more than 110 pounds and be in good health. The donation process takes about 30 minute and includes a complimentary snack and T-shirt, the release said.
