Court rules for former Red Bank police chief

The Tennessee Supreme Court ruled today that the former police chief of Red Bank has a right to present his case against the city to a jury.

The decision reverses an earlier ruling in the Court of Appeals.

Larry Sneed filed suit against the city and several city officials in 2010 after he was discharged from his position as chief. He made several allegations against the city, including age discrimination.

Earlier in the case, the city of Red Bank filed a motion to transfer the case from chancery court to circuit court, claiming that the Governmental Tort Liability Act -- which requires claims to be filed in circuit court and tried without a jury -- applied, according to a news release.

The Supreme Court disagreed with that assertation and remanded the case to chancery court for further proceedings.
