The victim has been identified in the fatal accident that occurred on Tibbs Bridge Road in Whitfield County on Friday night around 8:40 p.m.

Steven Conner, 34, of Whitfield County, was pronounced dead on the scene, after his 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle, a non-street legal "dirt bike," was hit by an SUV that was turning onto Riverside Drive, said Sgt. Darren Gleaton, with the Georgia Highway Patrol.

The dirt bike, which did not have lights, was hit by a 2002 Ford Explorer, driven by Gary Kelley, also from Whitfield County.

The initial investigation found that Kelley was traveling east bound on Tibbs Bridge Road, and Conner was traveling westbound on his dirt bike. Kelley began to turn left and did not see Conner because his dirt bike did not have lights, according to Gleaton.

"It is hard to yield to something you cannot see," Gleaton said.

Kelley gave a voluntary blood sample, but authorities have no reason to believe that he was intoxicated.

Conner's body has been sent to a crime lab in Georgia, and the investigation remains ongoing.
