A woman accused of killing a man and setting a room on fire made an appearance in Hamilton County General Sessions Court on Tuesday morning.

Police say Amy Lynn Bates, 29, shot Paul Brian Rector, 38, in the head at 2411 Stuart St. and woke up her housemates to tell them they needed to burn the house down. The housemates found flames and a body in the room where Bates was staying.

They called police, and Bates ran out the back door. She was quickly arrested and charged with criminal homicide, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm in commission of a felony.

She appeared before Judge Gary Starnes in a pink jumpsuit Tuesday morning, and her case was moved to Jan. 6. at her attorney's request.
