A Kingsport man is being charged with aggravated child abuse after allegedly shaking a six-month-old child so hard it left the boy with severe brain damage and detached retinas.
The alleged incident began on Nov. 25 when James R. Casteel, 25, of Riverside Avenue was alone with a male child in a storage building. The 6-month-old child may or may not be the biological child of Casteel.
According to Kingsport Police Department public information officer Tom Patton, Casteel is one of three potential men who may have fathered the child, depending on the outcome of paternity tests.
