Chattanooga police arrest suspect in Wednesday shooting

A 25-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in the shooting of another man earlier in the day.

Chattanooga police said in a news release that Shermain Latwon Menifee, 36, went to a local hospital with a gunshot wound. Police arrived at the hospital at 3:16 p.m. and found that his wound was not life-threatening.

Later Wednesday, police arrested Brandon McArthur Varnell, 25, on charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission or attempt of a dangerous felony, and unlawful possession, the news release stated.

According to police, the investigation in continuing.
