The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue Service Cave/Cliff team assisted in a Van Buren cave rescue Friday evening.

A 72-year-old male caver was trapped in a pit for more than nine hours when a boulder rolled down a slope and landed on his pelvis, according to a news release from the cave-cliff team.

Rescuers, including more than 25 volunteers from the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Cave/Cliff team, used special equipment to move the rock so that they could extract the man from the cave. He was rescued about 10:45 p.m. and was taken to Erlanger hospital for treatment.

His name and condition were not available late Saturday.
