Memorial set for school bus driver in AL bunker case

MIDLAND CITY, Ala. - A memorial is being held for the school bus driver slain one year ago during a bunker standoff in southeast Alabama.

The event honoring 66-year-old Charles Poland Jr. will be held at 6 p.m. today at Dale County High School in Midland City, a few miles from the scene of the hostage drama.

The event was supposed to be held last week, but the winter storm led organizers to reschedule it for tonight.

A gunman boarded Poland's bus Jan. 29, 2013, demanding children. Poland was shot dead after refusing the demand. He's been hailed as a hero.

Jimmy Lee Dykes grabbed then-5-year-old Ethan Gilman off the bus and held him in an underground bunker for six days before FBI agents stormed the shelter and killed Dykes.
