AL Emergency Call Center opened at 6 a.m.

Alabama officials opened the state Emergency Call Center at 6 a.m. today to provide travel information about road closures and conditions.

Alabama Department of Transportation officials are advising that no one travel in the areas hits by snow and ice this morning.

If travel is necessary, motorists are urged to call the center at 888-588-2848 and to monitor local media outlets for the latest information on weather conditions and frequently check road conditions and travel advisories.

To report traffic crashes or other emergencies to state troopers, cell phone calls can be made by dialing *47 toll-free.

The Alabama Department of Transportation has mobilized personnel and resources in affected areas of the state and crews are responding to icy bridge and road conditions.

Road crews will continue work to keep roads passable as long as conditions allow, officials said.
