Heritage Funeral Home makes gift of technology to area schools

Heritage Funeral Home has been neighbors with East Brainerd Elementary School for 20 years. Sometimes, the employees of Heritage can hear the after-school announcements come over the intercom from across the street.

So when Heritage employees had a few spare computers and other technology to donate, they knew exactly who to look to. The company considers East Brainerd Elementary and Apison Elementary its community schools, said funeral home Director Curtis Ottinger.

"We knew we wanted to be able to help them," he said. "We want to stay connected to the community and this is what it is all about."

Ottinger delivered computers to the schools last week and the principals and teachers were excited.

"Sometimes funding is limited, and now everything is on computers for kids," said Ottinger. "This is a diverse area, and if we can give kids a chance to learn they might not get at home, I'm glad to do it."
