Murder charges against Tennessee ministry student shocks community

JACKSON, Tenn. - Friends of a youth pastor and Christian ministry student at Union University who now stands accused of killing his fiancée say they are shocked by the allegations.

Police say 21-year-old Charlie Pittman shot and killed his fiancée and then staged the crime scene as a suicide. Pittman was arrested Saturday night and charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Pittman's fiancée, Olivia Greenlee, was found dead in a vehicle in a parking lot Wednesday on the Jackson, Tenn., campus.

The Jackson Sun is reporting that police say the gun used to kill the music education major belonged to one of Pittman's friends but was taken without the friend's knowledge.

Greenlee was described as cheerful and full of life at a service to honor her life Sunday.
