Man arrested for allegedly setting sweatshirt on fire at Erlanger

A patient who had been told he couldn't smoke inside Erlanger allegedly put a sweatshirt in the ceiling tiles above his bed and then set it on fire, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Fire Department.

The release said Jimmy Maxwell, 33, is being taken this morning to the Hamilton County Jail where he will be charged with aggravated arson and reckless endangerment. After being processed at the county jail, Mr. Maxwell was expected to be transported to the Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute for observation, according to the fire department release.

It was also stated that Maxwell had endangered the lives of 32 patients and 28 staff who were in the ER at the time of the fire.
