Alabama mother charged after 19-month-old's body found in burning car

ALABASTER, Ala. - Alabaster police found the body of a 19-month-old boy inside a burning car and charged with boy's mother with reckless murder.

Police Chief Curtis Rigney says officers and firefighters responded to a one-car accident early Friday morning. When they arrived, they found 22-year-old Sommer Nicole Wilford of Maylene standing outside the burning car.

When they extinguished the fire, the found the child's body inside. The mother was charged with reckless murder and was being held under $300,000 bond.

Police did not say what prompted them to bring the charge.

Court records don't indicate if Wilford has an attorney yet.
