CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Cleveland Police Chief Wes Snyder has submitted a letter to the city manager's office requesting to rescind a Dec. 6 retirement letter in which he announced his last day would be Jan. 5.
Snyder resigned two days after security video surfaced showing him meeting with MainStreet Cleveland Executive Director Sharon Marr in a rental unit at a controlled storage facility on multiple occasions in late November and early December.
"As of right now, no decision has been made that I am aware of," said Assistant City Manager Melinda Carroll on Friday evening.
Carroll said she received the letter this afternoon and has emailed it to City Manager Janice Casteel, who is on vacation.
Casteel responded with a letter saying the retirement would stand.
The City Council has no authority in the matter, which falls under the jurisdiction of the city manager, said Cleveland City Councilman George Poe. However, Poe gave his support for such a decision.
"If it was left up to me, I'd hire him back in a heartbeat," said Poe.
