Bud Floral and Home blooms at Pruett's

Among the changes taking place at Pruett's Signal Mountain Market is Signal Mountain resident Jamie Rehm's takeover of the store's floral department.

Pruett's originally did its own flowers in-house, then switched to another florist before hiring Rehm in October, said store manager Justin Davis.

"When we started looking for a new floral person, we wanted it to be different from what everyone else was doing," he said. "We wanted that eclectic look."

Rehm's style fits that description - she said her arrangements are made to fit the customer and range from casual to formal elegance to rustic.

"I love to do the unexpected in arrangements," she said.

"We also wanted a mountain resident, so we could get really good service," added Davis. "We wanted someone who would truly have fresh bouquets and arrangements all the time."

Rehm said either she or her assistant visit the store at least once a day to change out the offerings, which include fresh bouquets, arrangements and small gift items. Customers can choose from the $10 petite bouquet, the $15 classic bouquet, the $20 grande bouquet and the $15 small boxed arrangement called "The Happy."

Her best-sellers are the petite bouquets. Though lots of moms like to pick up "The Happy" as a teacher's gift or to bring to someone who is feeling sick, and the grande bouquets are the top-seller on weekends when husbands tend to stop by the store to pick up something for their wives.

She said she plans to gradually add more home items to her selection at Pruett's.

"If I ever decide to expand into [my own] shop, I can branch out into that," said Rehm of home furnishings.

She said one of her goals is to eventually offer classes in floral arrangement at Pruett's.

"We're trying to pull the community into the building and see some of the changes Pruett's is making," added Davis. "When they come in for flowers, I hope they notice each time something new that Pruett's is making better."
