The Rotary Club of Chattanooga Breakfast is boosting technology at Ganns Middle Valley Elementary School with a $5,000 check.
The club, in partnership with Erica Morris and Modern Woodmen of America, recently presented the school with the money, which was raised during the club's Gourmet Guys fundraising event last summer.
Past club president Mike Brown, who presented the check, said several GMVE teachers participate in the annual fundraiser each year.
"We're really thrilled to be receiving this donation from them," said GMVE principal Allyson DeYoung. "I think the key, honestly, to sustainability in our schools and strength in our communities are these partnerships. Everybody benefits."
The $5,000 will be used to purchase ELMO projectors for the kindergarten classrooms, as well as provide mini iPads and Apple TVs for at least five classrooms, DeYoung said, adding that the ultimate goal is to provide each classroom with iPads and Apple TVs.
"[Technology is] expensive and changes so rapidly; it's a never-ending challenge to keep up with technology," said Brown.
Rotary club members can often be seen in the school's hallways, he added. They come to read to the students and teach them the club's "Four-Way" character test.
"Our primary role is to help [the students] build character ... being able to build the character into our kids and provide the right attitude and service," Brown said. "We just love working with the schools to help kids as much as we can."
