Bentley said Wednesday that his private home in Tuscaloosa has an estimated $50,000 in damage after a water pipe froze and burst in the attic during the severe cold snap that spread all the way to Florida.
Bentley says the water damaged ceilings, walls, carpets and hardwood floors, all of which have to be replaced.
But Bentley said he's got good homeowner's insurance, so he and his wife, Dianne, are looking at their misfortune as a chance to update the house.
Bentley is a retired dermatologist who practiced medicine for years before being elected governor.
Burst pipes are a common problem in extremely cold weather.
