CLEVELAND, Tenn. - J. David Bishop has been named the new police chief for the city of Cleveland.

City Manager Janice Casteel made the announcement this morning that she had selected Bishop.

Bishop had been serving as interim police chief since Wes Snyder announced his retirement in December.

Snyder was caught on video repeatedly rendezvousing with a woman who is not his wife. It appeared that Snyder was in uniform on some of the occasions.

Bishop is a 30-year veteran of the Cleveland Police Department, according to a news release.

Bishop has also served as an officer at the Albany Police Department in Georgia and the Knoxville Police Department.

Bishop will be sworn in Monday during the Cleveland City Council meeting at 3 p.m.
