KIMBALL, Tenn. - Representatives with the AirMedCare Network will be in Kimball today for the city's first sign-up drive allowing residents to get extended air transport coverage in medical emergencies.

The event will be held at the City Hall annex building from noon-3 p.m. CST.

Jimmy Morse, a membership sales manager with AirMedCare, said Kimball residents will be eligible to insure their entire households for just $35 per year.

Morse said Kimball residents will receive the reduced membership rate, but anyone in surrounding communities or counties may come to the event and opt for the network's membership at $65 annually.

"There is a $10 discount for all Farm Bureau members," Morse said. "There are also multiyear memberships that have discounts built in and, again, additional discounts with Farm Bureau."

The Kimball Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted unanimously in November to pay $9,750 per year for citywide membership in the network, which includes Chattanooga's Life Force air ambulances.

Officials said the membership covers whatever portion of the costs that insurance doesn't pay, and in Marion County that bill could total more than $25,000 for a single trip.

Kimball residents won't have to pay those costs if they are airlifted from anywhere inside the Marion County lines.

A household membership's coverage extends beyond those county lines and throughout the network's 28 states and 300 air bases, officials said.

If weather permits, the Life Force helicopter and crew will be on hand for tours, Morse said.

Any residents unable to attend the sign-up drive today can obtain extra forms at City Hall next week, officials said.

"I think this is a good thing for our citizens," Mayor David Jackson said in December. "I hope they never have to use it, but it's there if we need it."
