PLEASANT VIEW, Tenn. - Pleasant View's police chief is charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest after police were called to an Applebee's restaurant in Springfield.
The Tennessean reports the report of an intoxicated man annoying other customers at the bar came at about 12:26 a.m. Sunday.
According to police, Michael Douglas had difficulty keeping his balance, was speaking incoherently and was dropping things from his wallet.
When officers tried to arrest him, Douglas he fell to the ground and refused to walk. He also ripped away a portion of the patrol car's door seal as he resisted getting inside, and he refused to leave patrol car upon arrival at the jail.
Douglas was released on $1,000 bond.
He has been placed on administrative leave with pay as the town investigates the incident.
