Henning man placed on TBI's top 10 wanted list

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has placed a Henning man charged with stealing a sheriff deputy's vehicle on the state's top 10 most wanted list.

The TBI said Wednesday that Stephen Daryl Melton is wanted by authorities in Lauderdale County on charges including theft of a motor vehicle, evading arrest, weapons possession and methamphetamine production.

Authorities say Melton was placed in the back seat of a Lauderdale County sheriff's SUV after deputies found weapons and components to make meth in his home.

The TBI said the deputy went back to the home to gather evidence. That's when the TBI says Melton kicked a hole in the protective glass between the front and back seat, crawled into the driver's seat and drove away.

The 58-year-old Melton is considered armed and dangerous.
