Collegedale looks into adding new text alerts

If you subscribe to the city of Collegedale's text alert system, the city can send messages to your cellphone or email about events in the city that range from when table tennis is taking to place to when the city commission's agenda publishes online.

These alerts are a function of the city's new website, a more than $30,000 investment. At the most recent city commission meeting, Vice Mayor Tim Johnson suggested adding some more practical alerts to the system - like when there will be changes to trash pickup.

Both he and Mayor John Turner expressed that they and their neighbors weren't clear on when it was being picked up over the holidays.

"I'm not knocking anybody, we just need to do a better job," said Johnson.

Public Works Director Rodney Keaton said he publishes trash pickup dates on the city's website and the marquis outside Public Works every year.
