Christopher Todd Landers, 35, also of Mount Vernon was detained at the crime scene Wednesday after 911 calls came from his residence indicating a person had been shot.
Landers was being held at the DeKalb County Detention Center on $100,000 bond Thursday.
Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was transported to Huntsville, Ala., on Thursday morning for an autopsy.
A news release stated the investigation into the homicide is continuing and that further leads are being pursued to determine what caused Jenkins' death.
"This is a terrible situation for both families," said DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris. "We will continue to work this case as long as it takes to get everything needed to get this before a jury. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the family members involved with this tragic death."
