THEC approves UX Design School in Chattanooga

The first school to offer an integrated curriculum to prepare user experience designers in the state has been approved by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, according to the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce.

Known as the Center Centre, it has received the thumbs up from THEC to become an official diploma-granting institution, the Chamber said in a statement.

Launched by Dr. Leslie Jensen-Inman and Jared Spool, both well-known pioneers in the design field, the Chattanooga school will offer an integrated curriculum to prepare UX designers-the interdisciplinary design field popularized by Apple and other industry leaders which carefully design every aspect of a customer's experience in interacting with the company both on-line and in-person.

To raise funds for curriculum development, Jensen-Inman and Spool recently launched a Kickstarter campaign, the Chamber said. Within days, more than 700 backers from as far away Malaysia, Brazil, Norway, Prague, and the United Kingdom signaled their support by committing in excess of $70,000 to the project.
