Police identify 2 killed in Champion Road car wreck

Police have identified the two people killed in a single vehicle accident on Champion Road near Booker T. Washington State Park in the Harrison area.

That crash happened just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The driver was identified as 31-year-old Thomas Owen Carney III, from Jacksonville, Florida. The passenger was identified as 29-year-old Howard Sullivan Kearney of Chattanooga.

The 2014 black Audi they were in was traveling south and, according to police, lost control in a left curve, going off the road and striking a tree.

Police said in a release that the vehicle appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed.
