STOCKTON, Calif. - The father of a slain bank robbery suspect says police in the Northern California city of Stockton acted appropriately when they engaged in a gunbattle with his son.

The father of Alex Gregory Martinez says Friday that he believes police's use of lethal force was justifiable and he expressed condolences for the family of the hostage found dead after the gunfight.

Martinez was two of three robbers who were killed on Wednesday; the surviving suspect used the hostage as a human shield during the gunfight with police.
