Monroe County sheriff candidate investigated

Randy White, Republican candidate for sheriff in Monroe County, Tenn., could face charges after a POST Commission ruling that he didn't meet requirements for police certification.

The Peace Officer Training and Standards Commission ruled last week that White had not met a requirement of working three years as a full-time police officer within the past 10 years.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reported that White was a Monroe County deputy in 2004-2006, and that he claimed to have worked for the Vonore Police Department from 2010 to 2012.

The News Sentinel said the POST Commission investigator could only prove White actually worked for Vonore for only about three months in 2012

In a news release Friday, 10th Judicial District Attorney Steve Crump said the POST findings were sent to him for "further investigation and determination into whether criminal acts have been committed."

He said he will review the report and decide what, if any action, to take.

White is challenging incumbent Democrat Bill Bivens in the Aug. 7 county general election.
