Calhoun-based Mohawk reports record second quarter profits

Calhoun, Ga.-based flooring giant Mohawk Industries' profits jumped 20 percent in the second quarter to $162 million, excluding unusual charges, or $2.21 per share, up from $134 million in the second quarter of 2013.

The quarter made Mohawk history, as it was marked the most the company has ever earned per share, when adjusted for unusual charges.

Mohawk, the largest flooring company in the world, sold $2.05 billion in flooring products, a 4 percent increase in sales from the second quarter, giving the company a running total of $3.9 billion in sales for the first six months of the fiscal year - an increase of 12 percent.
