Aside from a good day's work put in before most of the rest of the city had even made it to their job site, the one certainty that came from the second day of fall camp for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team was this - the players were due for a nap once team meetings ended.
The Mocs followed up Wednesday afternoon's two-plus hours of practice with a 5 a.m. wake-up Thursday and were on Scrappy Moore Field by 6:30 for another spirited two-hour session. There was another full day of team meetings to follow before players were to be back in their rooms for lights out at 10:30 p.m. However several players discussed finding a few minutes between meetings for a quick nap as they made their way from the practice field back to the locker room.
Although none of the heralded incoming freshmen are listed higher than third-team on the depth chart for now, several made an impressive play or two on offense. Receivers Dejuan McQuarters, Wil Young and Bingo Morton each had at least one athletic catch and running back Richardre Bagley showed flashes of the speed and quick-cutting ability that had coaches raving during his recruitment.
The Mocs worked on offensive tempo for a good portion of practice, continuing to make adjustments to how quickly they want the pace of the game to go at times.
