Dog fatally shot after attacking Georgia boy, officer

ATHENS, Ga. - Athens-Clarke County police say a dog was fatally shot after mauling a 10-year-old boy and attacking a responding officer.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports the boy was bitten on his face in the Wednesday night attack and was holding a towel to his jaw when officers arrived.

In an incident report, police say the dog ripped a portion of skin from the boy's face during the attack.

Police say an officer who tried getting the dog to retreat to its cage was bitten on one of his arms and drove himself to a local hospital.
