Pedestrian struck tileState data shows that more pedestrians in Georgia died after being hit by a vehicle last year than in any other year since 1997.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that 2013 was the second consecutive year of rising pedestrian deaths in Georgia, though the total number of pedestrian crashes decreased.
Last year saw 182 people killed statewide after being hit by vehicles. So far this year, 67 pedestrians have died, a 12 percent increase over the same period in 2013.
Roughly half of the deadly crashes involving pedestrians happen in metro Atlanta, where clogged multi-lane roads frequently lack sidewalks and safe crossing areas for those on foot.
