HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Crews are working to restore power after high winds took down trees across much of northern Alabama.

National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Carcione says the Huntsville office received reports of downed trees from almost every county in north Alabama after Thursday's storm. Reports were concentrated in southern Limestone County, and the highest wind gust at Huntsville International Airport was measured at 59 miles per hour.

WAFF-TV reports that Huntsville Utilities estimated 10,000 people were without power at the height of outages (http://bit.ly/1nWeRdB). About 500 did not have power on Friday morning.

The NWS Birmingham office received reports of quarter-size hail from Etowah County.

Forecasters say more storms are possible today, mainly in northern Alabama.
