NASHVILLE - Students at Chattanooga and Cleveland State Community Colleges will see a 5.2 percent increase in tuition under a funding plan approved this afternoon by the Tennessee Board of Regents' Finance Committee.

The full board will vote on the increases Friday when it considers the system's annual budget.

Tuition hikes at four-year universities are even higher with students atTenessee Tech in Cookeville looking at a 8.6 percent hike.

Earlier today, the University of Tennessee's board approved 6 percent jump in tuition, plus several hundred dollars more in various student fee hikes.

Trustees and officials at both higher education systems blamed flat state funding for the increases, saying they would have been half what has been approved by UT and is expected to be OK'd by the full Board of Regents.
