The public defender appointed to represent murder suspect Cashman Perkins waived his client's hearing and sent charges to the grand jury in Hamilton County General Sessions Court Judge David Bales' courtroom this morning.

Perkins, 31, has been charged in the killing of his live-in girlfriend Francis Smith, 40, earlier this month at Woodland View Circle. He was arrested June 8 in Columbus, Miss.

If convicted, Perkins could face life in prison.
