An early morning accident on Interstate 75 northbound in Bradley County, Tenn., has left a man hospitalized with serious injuries, a news release states.

Just before 2 a.m. Bradley County Emergency Services personnel responded to a report that an 18-wheeler had struck an SUV that had pulled to the roadside, according to the EMS release.

The SUV driver was not injured, but the semi-trailer was up ahead on its side in the woods and the driver trapped, the release states.

The truck driver, a 23-year-old man, was pinned in the wreckage and seriously injured. After two hours, the patient was extricated and flown to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga.

The trailer was hauling paper rolls that weighed more than 6,000 pounds apiece, according to the release.
